Sketchcrawl 12/18/10 Results

Four sketchers decided to chase off the rainy day blues and sketch in downtown Mountain View. Unfortunately several regulars had to cancel. After meeting at Red Rock Coffee two of us headed for other venues. East-West Books has a nice meditation nook that features a natural rock fountain and a wall of candles (unlit). It was a peaceful place to sketch and avoid the holiday bustle.  Wang captured a bit of the outdoor color.

Four intrepid sketchers braved the chilly and rain-soaked day to draw around 'Old Town Palo Alto'. Fortunately the rain stopped for about 2 hours and we were able to walk to views that inspired us. But the sky was filled with clouds. Here's the first of the sketches, which features the sculpture, Sunflowers. It functions as a seating area in front of Sun Market on California St. No one was taking advantage of the tables on this wet day. Nina Koepcke joined us in spirit as she sketched while serving as gallery attendant.

Sketchcrawl Nov. 20, 2010

Our next Sketchcrawl will take place in “Old Town’ Palo Alto. We will meet
November 20, 2010  at 1 PM
Printer’s Inc Café
320 South California Ave
Palo Alto CA 94306

Then we will disperse to find our own little gems that attract our pens. There are older buildings, cafés, a mural at Sun Market, public art and lots of street activity. There is also a gallery at Printer’s Inc--it used to be an independent bookstore in the not too recent past, hence the name.

I’m planning to publicize the group more in the next few weeks and hopefully we will have a few more sketchers joining us.

New Sketching Dates

Hi Sketchers!
We will be meeting on the following dates to sketch. Watch for details.
Saturday, November 20, 2010  1-3:00 PM Old Town Palo Alto
Saturday, December 18, 2010  1-3:00 PM Mountain View

We will be sketching in the downtown areas of towns and cities of the South Bay during the next few months. This will allow us to retreat to sheltered spots, like cafes, to avoid inclement weather.

World Wide Sketchcrawl #29 Results

On October 16, 2010 four sketchers showed up at Foothill College to participate in our first world-wide Sketchcrawl event. It was a glorious autumn day. We captured some of the visitors to the event and also watched the grass grow. This campus is located in the foothills of the Santa Cruz mountains and it's hill top views invite relaxation. We also had a chance to visit the Exhibitor's Hall for the Book Arts Jam and the exhibition of book art by members of the Bay Area Book Artists.

Tips for parking at Foothill college

I reconnoitered Foothill yesterday. In Parking Lot #2 the red dispensers only take quarters (8)-- YELLOW parking ticket dispensers will take dollar bills.

The Cafeteria is located on the top level of the Campus Center, as is the Book Arts Jam. I will be at outside the front entrance. I have a new black cap with 'sketchcrawl' in red embroidered on it--so you can't miss me. See you soon.

29th World Wide Sketchcrawl 10/16/10

Join us as we participate in the 29th World Wide Sketchcrawl on October 16, 2010. This book arts festival features handmade books, 'zines, prints, book art structures and altered books. Printmaking and book art demonstrations are scheduled. About 500 visitors come to look, and learn --so there is lots of activity to capture on paper. The Book Arts Jam is sponsored by Foothill College and the Bay Area Book Artists. The design of this campus won multiple awards when it was first opened.

Meet at the Cafeteria/Cafe at 10 AM, located in the Campus Center (building 2200-2300 on the campus map.)

Sketchcrawl Shoreline Park

Our inaugural sketchcrawl took place at Shoreline Park in Mountain View, CA on 9/11/10. Four sketchers participated and enjoyed a perfect day on San Francisco Bay--plenty of sunshine and cool breezes. The park was busy with kite flyers, walkers, bikers, sail surfers, and radio-controlled sailboat racers. We shared our sketches over lunch near Rengstorff House, an 1868 Italianate Victorian home in the park. All images are copyrighted by the artists.

We plan to participate in the 29th Worldwide Sketchcrawl on Saturday 10/16/10. See post by 'mzsketchusa' at www.sketchcrawl.com for details.
